Cardinal Health, Fortune 20, wanted to reduce their diesel fuel prices and improve their fuel information. They had been purchasing all of their diesel fuel at a large national truck leasing company. While they were being charged fairly competitive diesel fuel prices from the leasing company, Cardinal thought they could reduce out of route miles, save time and improve their fuel savings by going to truck stops.

Crude Oil Prices Gain, Gas Prices and Diesel Fuel Prices Follow

On Friday, President Barack Obama told auto club AAA in an interview Friday that the tension in Iran and the Middle East is adding $29 to $30 a barrel to the price of oil. That would mean that its adding 60-90 cents per gallon to gas prices and diesel fuel prices. I am not sure if there is a $30 premium. I would say $20 maybe but even that is difficult to determine. We have many different things that are adding to the price of oil.

Maybe Diesel Fuel Prices Won’t Be That Bad?

Brent crude fell more than $2 to around $123 a barrel on Tuesday, after Kuwait said Iran reassured the Gulf state it would not attempt to close the strategically important Strait of Hormuz shipping lane and Saudi Arabia signaled it was ready to increase supply. This is positive news if you are hoping diesel fuel prices stay at or go lower.

Price is Highest Since August 2008

Diesel fuel rose 1.9 cents to $4.142 a gallon, its highest price since the record-setting summer of 2008, while gasoline fuel also rose. Diesel’s increase — the eighth straight and 10th in 11 weeks — leaves trucking’s main fuel 23.5 cents over than the same week a year ago. Diesel topped out at $4.124 last May, then the highest since 2008. Monday’s price is the highest since it was $4.145 on Aug. 25, 2008. The record high for diesel fuel was $4.764 a gallon, set on July 14, 2008. Gas fuel prices, meanwhile, rose 3.8 cents to $3.867, the eighth straight gain and the 12th in 13 weeks. Gasoline is at its highest level since May 16 and is now 30.5 cents higher than the same week last year.
